Tonight, under the lights, if there are any flood lights, Stretford Paddock will look to make it 2 from 2 in their inaugural season in the Cheshire League when they come up against Mersey Valley FC. Saturday’s 7-0 hammering over Holmes Chapel FC has given Paddock the belief that anything is possible this season. There’s no doubt that manager Steven Howson will be looking to make a similar statement this evening.

Too early to make predictions

The first couple of rounds of fixtures have been interesting to say the least. FC St Helens Reserves’ 11-2 trouncing over Ashton Town Reserves should not have been on the cards after St Helens lost and Ashton won convincingly in their opening fixtures of the season.

Hartford FC are another erratic example. An impressive 8-0 win in their first fixture over Lymm Rovers would have opened eyes but only a week later, they conceded 7 to Upton JFC.

Paddock might have won 7-0 and Mersey Valley lost 6-2 on the opening day however, strange results have proved that anything could happen – Paddock must treat this game like they would any other.

Building on an superb start

Saturdays match against Holmes Chapel saw an excellent Stretford Paddock performance. 7 goals and a clean sheet where the two main things to take however, beautiful team worked attacks, moments of individual brilliance and the way the team dominated the ball, put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces.

In his pre match team talk, manager Steven Howson mentioned the ruthlessness he wants his team to go into every single game with this season. If Saturdays dominance is matched, Paddock will fancy themselves to take the win.

After both scoring 2 last Saturday, we might be seeing the start of a battle for the golden boot between forwards Tom Jones and Joao de Andrade. Against Holmes Chapel, both teammates scored a variety of goals which really showed their quality to the Cheshire League. If Paddock want to win the league this year, they will need more performances like this from the lads – a strong goal difference might just be vital.

Tonights game will be kicking off at 6:30PM from Mersey Valley Sports Club. Entry is free so come on down if you fancy a bit of midweek football!
