In what will be their final test this preseason, Stretford Paddock FC will be looking to obtain some vital confidence by causing an upset against Ramsbottom United FC. Following a long string of training matches and friendlies, Paddock’s latest fixture against Dukinfield ended in a 3-0 loss. In Ramsbottom United, Paddock will face another team playing at a higher level from them – the perfect challenge to set them up for the Cheshire League.

It’s clear that manager Steven Howson believes in the method of playing harder opponents to subsequently drive up your own standards. Since the formation of the club, Paddock have continuously organised games against higher tier clubs to put the players through their paces. Whilst facing the likes Macclesfield Town, Dukinfield and Ramsbottom improves standards, it also gives a moral boost across the club if the boys can manage to get a result. It’s exactly what happened against Hashtag United and exactly what Paddock will want on Sunday.

After a brief stint at Ramsbottom, Paddock forwards Ronaldo Brown and Nosa Iyamu will be looking to impress against their former club. Ronaldo Brown shared his thoughts on facing The Rams:

“Of course, it’s always nice playing against an old team and to see a few familiar faces but more importantly, I’m excited for me and the lads to challenge ourselves one again against a tough side”

“Pre-season has been good. Everyone is feeling fitter, and the team is looking forward to get going in a new league. We are excited to see how we can do in the Cheshire League.”

Against Dukinfield, Paddock had a shortage of right backs because of Mike Burke’s leg injury. This week, Omar Sinclair will be looking to steady the ship and add some more stability to the Paddock back 4.

The last time the two sides faced one another was in a midseason friendly back in January of last year. The game finished 2-0 to Ramsbottom. Words from the grape vine suggest that Ramsbottom will be fielding a slightly weaker side than usual – Paddock will certainly fancy their chances this time round.

The match kicks off a 2pm on Sunday at Manchester Enterprise Academy in Wythenshawe, M22 9RH.

Entry is free, come and support the lads.
