A solid performance away from home saw Stretford Paddock collect all 3 points in a triumph over Ashton Town Reserves. Paddock, who not long ago saw the end of a 6 game win streak, are beginning to rebuild another.

The game was one of little chances, and Paddock had to work hard to break down a robust Ashton defence in the first half.

Paddock’s attacking quality prevailed and in the 29^th minute, Joao swept the ball to the back post for Tom Jones to tuck it away; the third time those two have combined for a goal in the last two games.

Paddock went into the halftime break with the lead intact, however the opening minutes of the second half played host to an Ashton goal that levelled up the scoring.

In spite of the setback, Paddock grew into the game, and a couple of minutes after the opposition’s equaliser, Paddock found themselves back in front.

Man-of-the-match Omar Sinclair rose at the back post from a whipped corner to revitalise the Stretford Paddock 11 as they searched for all 3 points.

The second half saw an eagerly awaited return for Ronaldo Brown after his trip to Qatar, and Paddock prevailed in defence to keep their lead intact.

As the Ashton legs grew tired, a counter attack in the 86^th minute saw Kieron Molloy tee up the ball for Abdullah Saeed to score Paddock’s third of the game, and ensure that the victory was secured.

A big win on the road keeps Paddock’s promotion hopes well and truly alive as we head into the Christmas period!

On a dark and wet afternoon in Wythenshawe, Stretford Paddock scored 3 second half goals to return to winning ways and keep their Cheshire League win streak alive and kicking. A freekick from Omar Sinclair, a penalty from Tom Jones and a weak foot strike from Kieron Molloy; saw Paddock go from being 1-0 down to eventual 3-1 victors. The YouTube side are now on a 6-game win streak going into a huge fixture next weekend against league leaders, Upton JFC.

The first half was, without doubt, F.C. St Helens’. The away side defended well when Paddock were in possession and often forced them to lose the ball through a consistent press. St Helen’s also enjoyed spells of possession themselves, creating a handful of chances.

It took the visitors only 5 minutes to go ahead, however. A freekick on the edge of the box allowed St Helens to get a cross into a dangerous area. Just like last week, Paddock failed to deal with their opponents set piece. A lack of communication between keeper, Vic Gimenez, and his men in the box saw the ball hit the deck and trickle into the back of the net.

With 10 minutes of the first half remaining, Paddock finally had a positive spell – often getting the ball into their opponents final third via Ronaldo Brown. Kieron Molloy, late into the half, put a 1-on-1 wide of the post and Paddock found themselves a goal down at the break.

Paddock came out better after half time however, whenever they tried to break the line and get the ball up to their attackers, the pass was frequently forced and rarely executed well.

It took until the 68th minute for Paddock to calm down and to ‘do their thing’ – beat their opponents by moving the ball. The catalyst – a wonderful goal from Omar Sinclair. A foul, right on the edge of the box gave Paddock a freekick in a dangerous area. Sinclair, after scoring from a similar position last week, was the only man taking this one. He whipped the ball over the wall and into the top corner.

Some great defending from James Oatt and Tommy MacFarlane kept Paddock in the game up until the 83rd minute where Paddock were awarded a penalty. The man who was pulled back in the box, Tom Jones, stepped up and hammered his shot into the roof of the net.

With just 4 minutes to go, Kieron Molloy put the game to bed. St Helens has committed men forward which, for the first time, gave Molloy space. A clearance from Brown was claimed by Molloy. He burst past his defender and hammered his trike past the keeper – 3-1 to The Paddock.

Stretford Paddock ran riot on the weekend, dismantling Old Stretfordians 9-1 this weekend to progress to the semi-finals of the Rhodes Cup, to aid Paddock’s pursuit of silverware this season. This victory was Stretford Paddock’s biggest margin of victory in their short history and one of the most impressive performances ever. Seven of the nine goals came in a ruthless second-half display, representing the difference in fitness between the two sides. Setting up Paddock for a potential collision course with fellow top of the league rivals De La Salle in a highly anticipated semi-final clash..

Postgame, Howson described how delighted he was with the performance of his side and the ruthlessness they showed, something he has often been critical of this season.

However, attention now turns to the huge league clash next week against Moston Brook, where nothing but a victory will do in the toughest league game remaining this season, and we’ll have all the build-up to the game later on in the week.

However, in what was an unconvincing performance, Paddock did scrape through with a 3-2 win and will be eager to put the performance behind them and be satisfied with the result.

Howson did reiterate, “The conditions were awful, and we did have to adjust from how we usually play, but we do have to up our performance level if we are going to achieve what we want to achieve by the end of the season.”

In what was a scrappy and disjointed game throughout and it took a couple of moments of brilliance to get Paddock over the line. The deadlock was broken in what should already be locked up as the goal of the season, with a 40-yard screamer from Bouba Jenkins, a goal that was later almost matched in the game by Mikey Burke, who cut inside from the left and lashed home a superb strike into the top corner. Two instances of class in a game that largely lacked quality as the hosts soaked up the pressure and were able to break clinically on two occasions to score their goals. Paddock would score the winner in the end through Bouba Jenkins, who scrambled home a cushioned header from Paul Arrowsmith to complete his brace and send Paddock through into the next round of the cup.

Table-topping Stretford Paddock are back in action this weekend against Salford Victoria, in what is now just five more league games of the season remaining and Paddock are expecting five wins from five if they’re going to end the season as champions.

Coming off a subpar 4-1 victoria against bottom of the league side AFC Oldham, the team are well aware that they will need a massive uptick in performance this time around if they are going to be able to avoid a possible upset against a dangerous and mercurial Salford Vics side who have only played nine league games all season. Howson has been on record this week stating his discontent with the performance and setting out just how important each and every remaining game is, anything can happen on any given day and with De La Salle just one point behind with a game in hand there is simply no margin for error.

Something to keep an eye on, however, is the blazing hot form of Kieron Molloy who has Josh Smith’s goal scoring record in his sights, currently three goals behind with just five league games to go – with the form he’s in and with Josh out of action for the rest of the season, it would actually come as a surprise if Kieron isn’t able to overtake Josh come the end of the season. This weekend will however see the return of Will Hobson and Cameron Watters, who will undoubtedly help strengthen what has been an injury-ravaged squad in recent weeks.

The league is no longer in the hands of Howson’s men but they can just control what they can control. After all, points on the board trump ‘games in hand’, and as things stand, Paddock hold just a one-point lead at the top of the table. Anything can happen and if Paddock are able to win out the rest of the season they will be there or thereabouts.
