After a long preseason, tomorrow marks the start of a new chapter for Stretford Paddock FC. At 2PM at the Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre, Stretford Paddock FC will play their first competitive fixture as a fan owned football club. After a long, action packed and relatively successful preseason, Ste, Bill and the lads will be looking to start life in the Cheshire League as they mean to go on, by picking up 3 points.
Itching to get started
Stretford Paddock’s preseason began all the way back in June. A few training sessions were held before dusting off the cob webs with a warm up fixture against Chorlton FC. The initial loss seemed to be exactly what was needed as the Paddock machine sprung to life. Frequent training, the appointment of Bill Prendergast as Director of Football and a hand full of noteworthy victories has led the club into a great position.
Victories against Hashtag United Reserves and Ramsbottom United, though friendlies, have certainly proved that anything is possible for Paddock this season. With one more sleep to go, confidence and morale should be high.
Cheshire League
Stretford Paddock, this season, will be playing in Division 2 of the Cheshire League. Founded in 1948, the Cheshire League currently consists of a Premier, 1st and 2nd division as well as 2 reserve divisions. Technically Level 13 of English football, Ste’s dream of managing in the FA Cup becomes realistically attainable. Clubs in level 10 can enter the first extra-preliminary qualifying round.
Paddock have shown during preseason that advancing through the Cheshire League is well within their ability.
Holmes Chapel FC
This weekends opponents, Holmes Chapel FC, are an experienced Cheshire League side. Last season, the club had a reserve team side playing in the Reserve League 2 as well as their first team in League 1.
Unfortunately, Holmes Chapel had to fold their first team and seem to have gone on to combine both sides. Now playing in Division 2, the unusual circumstances have resulted in a Holmes Chapel side that will be hard to predict. Ste and his men cannot afford to be complacent.
Keep an eye out!
Players such as Ronaldo Brown, Tom Jones and Kayode Adewale have showed their class this preseason and will be looking to carry that form with them into tomorrows match. Returning to the side this weekend is Cam Watters who will be looking to play as well as he did against Hashtag United down in Pitsea.
This weeks fixture will be kicking off at 2PM tomorrow from Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre. If you can, get down and support YOUR club!
