At 2pm on Saturday, at the Manchester Enterprise Academy, the battle for 7th spot in Division 2 of the Cheshire Football League will commence. This weekend, Stretford Paddock host Moore United, a side only one league position and two points behind YouTube’s only fan owned football club. Due to cancellations earlier in the season, the two mid-table sides are yet to face each other in the league. If this weekend’s game is anything like their bout in the JA Walton Challenge Cup however, we should be in for a treat.
Opponent Watch
Moore United currently occupy 8th place in the league with 30 points. Their league campaign has seen them win 8 games this season, draw 6 and lose 5 – they have a slightly better goal difference than Paddock (+6).
Moore United are coming into the fixture in mighty form. They are undefeated since early February and are fresh off the back of a 3-0 away victory. Moore United started their season in good form picking up 13 points in their first 6 games however, they went through a pretty rough spell midseason. They only won 2 matches between the end of September and February so have certainly now peaked at the right time, the business end of the season.
The main man at Moore United this season is certainly attacker, Kane Hackett. Hackett has featured in almost every game for Moore this season scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists.
Situational Preview
Although the sides have not faced each other yet in the League, Paddock will take great confidence in knowing they have beaten Moore United already this season.
Back in November, the two sides went head to head in the JA Walton Challenge Cup where Paddock came away from the fixture 4-3 winners. It was an exciting game which saw goalkeeping errors, goals from set pieces as well as a late winner from Paddock’s centre half, Thomas MacFarlane.
After this weekend’s fixture, both sides will face each other again in the not too distant future – the 18th of April to be exact.
A win for Moore United this weekend would see them go above Paddock by a single point however, Paddock would extend their lead over Moore United to 5 points should they win on Saturday. In fact, as Newton-Le-Willows aren’t playing this Saturday, a Stretford Paddock win would see them move up to 6th spot come the end of the weekend.
One thing Paddock must be aware of however, is that Moore United have a game in hand over them – a win is a must, really.
Stretford Paddock Amateurs
After not having a fixture last weekend, our Amateurs faced Irlam Steel Rangers again on Wednesday night in the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL. Paddock were handed a 7-0 hammering last month against Irlam so did well to manage to score two goals on Wednesday despite Irlam coming out as 6-2 victors.
Goals from Kristian Wall and first team regular, Joseph Coleman gave Paddock plenty of positives to take into the last few games of the season.
